It is possible to access to Torotoro from the city of Cochabamba. This area has important geological and geomorphological values such as the vast Umajalanta Cave. During the visit we will also observe countless dinosaur footprints, areas with abundant fossils, important Inca ruins and cave paintings. The observation of the Canyon of the Valley of Torotoro and the visit to the city of Itas turn this tour into a unique experience of going back in time to the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras.Other optional visits:
Torotoro National Park is characterized for having exuberant beauty on its mountains, deep canyons, valleys and waterfalls, and it became the paradise for the lovers of paleontology.
Between 7:30 and 8:00 am our vehicle will be waiting for you at your hotel to start our journey toward Torotoro which is 6 hours from the city of Cochabamba through dirt roads. We arrive in Torotoro for lunch. In the afternoon, we register at the office in Torotoro National Park and we get ready to go visit Umajalanta Cave where you will see stalactites, stalagmites and blind fish. Then we return to the hotel.
After breakfast, we start our visit by going on foot to Cerro de Wayllas where there are hundreds of traces of various species of dinosaurs. We will do a 7-km hike approximately, bordering the Canyon of Torotoro. On the way, we will see dinosaur footprints and very attractive rock formations. We make a short stopover at Mirador Colgante (lookout) from where we can see red-front macaws. As we take a rest, we also enjoy a tasty snack looking at El Vergel waterfalls. There we can also enjoy a refreshing bath in crystal clear waters.
Walk returning to Torotoro.
Visit the PachamamaWasi Lithic Museum where you can see a huge collection of fossils and different types of stone formations. Visit the crafts market where you can purchase beautiful and authentic crafts.
After breakfast, we start our journey to the city of Itas where you will see a series of rock formations nearly at 4,000 meters above sea level. This "city" has mazes and rock galleries that form a sort of gothic city, nestled in a mountainous area of sedimentary rocks. There, the caverns are joined to each other by narrow corridors, stone bridges and it is possible to find some cave paintings. After lunch, we go back to Cochabamba where we arrive around 8:30 pm.
